Am I mandatorily required to have an Import Export Code Registration?
If you are dealing or planning to deal in import and export of goods and services in India then you must have an IEC (Import export Code).
How long does it take to obtain an Import Export Code (IEC)?
It takes nearly 7-10 days time to obtain the Import export Code certificate once all the documents are submitted. IEC code is issued by DGFT.
Can I obtain the duplicate copy of my IEC code online?
Yes, you can obtain the duplicate copy of your IEC certificate online only if you had obtained your original IEC Certificate through e-IEC online process. duplicate IEC copy can be downloaded easily by login into the IEC portal with your usernames details.
I had obtained my IEC certificate offline, how can I get a duplicate IEC Certificate ONLINE?
If you had obtained your IEC certificate offline then to obtain the duplicate copy of IEC, you will have to re-apply for your e-IEC by submitting all the documents all over again and then DGFT will re-issue your certificate in the online format.
How can I modify my IEC license online?
You can modify details in your IEC license just by making changes in IEC application. You need to resubmit the IEC application with the DGFT with all the necessary documents along with the associated fees.
Do I need to file Import Export Code returns?
No, never. As IEC is just a license which doesn’t require any returns.
Who is exempted from obtaining an IEC certificate?
People dealing in import and export for personal use and people who are importing or exporting goods not exceeding Rs.. 25,000/- in one time assignment through Indo-Myanmar border areas both are exempted from IEC code. Apart from this, all the central government departments and ministries do not need an IEC code for import export.
